Island Dreams

The weather was absolute crap this morning. Rain, thunder, lightning, rain, Zeus crying, and rain. In the midst of all that, I found myself daydreaming of island life. I thought about how the storms there are probably the same or worse. They have a hurricane season in the Azores Islands of Portugal just like we do here in South Carolina but the similarities are few and far between (literally and figuratively). The culture of people are drastically different. Priorities are ranked with less emphasis on consuming material things. There is more of a value found in experiences and quality time with friends and family, not to mention gathering to eat good food (not so much fast food) and have a great time (without spending money) this seems to be the focus. I’m not saying that things can’t or won’t change because as I accumulate those silvery white hairs on my head, I am learning that all things shift with time. Some may say Kevin and I are ‘unsettled’ just based on the big moves we’ve made but we both find reward in taking risks, even when things don’t go our way. One of the most popular life mantra is ‘no regrets’ and I do believe in the intention behind this statement but if I’m being honest; my regrets have given me perspective and more importantly, direction. What can I say? I learn best from falling on my face and being dragged through the mud; not that I suggest making a habit of this method (it’s a lot less painful and embarrassing if people just listen to good advice but who likes to be told what to do nowadays 😂). After all of my daydreaming this morning, I was hit with a dose of reality… the last sip of my Cinnabon Caramel Pecan flavoured coffee had a fruit-fly swimming in it. I have no idea how long it had been in my cup and I am disgusted as well as disappointed because I love my morning Java. Now I’m googling how to kill fruit flies to prevent this from happening again when the truth is, if I take my head out of the clouds and get my priorities in line with my dreams, I could eventually be basking in the island breeze while enjoying my cup of joe with Portuguese fruit flys floating in my cup. #lifegoals
