Ramblings of a Housewife

Have you heard of the capability to have genetically modified children? The extent of my knowledge is what the media shares. A few studies have been cited but they are just as reliable as the media (in my opinion). I am Switzerland on this matter. Kevin and I have argued into the night about this idea. Kevin says NO, HELL NO; they can't do this because where will it stop? I think if there 'could' be a line drawn on what to change and if the science is conclusive, then why not try? Typing this message makes me feel like a mad scientist (CRAZY LAUGH). For instance, what if geneticists can remove the variant that can save a person from being a serial killer. Kevin says that's impossible because people can become a serial killer through choices or circumstances. What if we could have fewer serial killers IF the people who would have been born with the underlying cause (hormone/gene/compound) had been given a chance to live differently. And what about the opportunity for parents to attempt to eliminate diseases like MS, Parkinson's, Schizophrenia ETC. We can all argue that that would be an excellent plan but people in Camp Kevin may point out that removing parts of a person could just cause other issues (unfounded at a genetic level). Then we enter the part of the debate regarding money.... only those with the big bucks could really afford such things leaving 99% of the population that much more vulnerable. Whose to say with these powers that they don't go as far as modifying the child's abilities like giving them musical attributes, physical strength, impeccable memorization, an all-around perfect human being. My pros and cons don't hit every factor but I do lean towards using this kind of science to save humanity from the things that are against our nature like cannibalism or pedophilia. As Kevin often says to me, where do you draw the line?
