UP week 24

Writer: Melissa GMelissa G

I'm not UP this week! I still consider myself Unpleasantly Plump but the scale has gone from being something I avoided to a necessary evil. I have lost two whole pounds since last week, bringing me to 194.4lbs and for that I am proud and grateful that the hard work is paying off BUT I haven't noticed any difference. I'm sure if I had written down the measurements or body fat percentages that I would see more significant change but using only my clothing or looking at myself naked in the mirror before getting dressed; I don't see it. I started at 211lbs so overall, I've lost 16lbs, that's no small feat. I'm still encouraged by the progress thus far so no worries there, I'm not giving up or giving in to my sweet tooth or anything. I just wish some of the results I was hoping for would have shown up by now. .

This week there was a big focus on work, I had a lot to accomplish especially since it was month-end, preparing to start April. We are on track to have our best year yet 🤗.

Zeus was particularly difficult these last few days. He had surgery on Wednesday to remove the fatty lump on his rear ankle but he wouldn't go down without a fight when it came to the cone. He kept trying to take it off by kicking up his feet and scratching at it. His feet would slide to the end of the plastic and in doing that, he cut open at least one of his stitches 🤦🏽‍♀️. Thank goodness it happened while my brother (who is also a paramedic) was there because if it was Kevin, he would have passed out. I held Zeus down while Mike cleaned the cut and redressed it. Tomorrow morning is the next vet visit, they are going to decide if the stitches should come out 🤞🏻. The world will be a happier place for everyone if I can stop yelling, 'Zeus! No licking!'

The only truly cool thing I did this week was volunteer to help a frequent customer/new friend as he hosted the South Carolina Strongest Man/Woman Competition 2023. It was a long-ass day with a lot of work involved. Kudos to Caustin on such a successful event. I love volunteering, organizing, and planning events but I could never put something of this magnitude together, at least not nearly as well executed. I learned a lesson with that particular situation, I didn't plan ahead with snacks or a meal for myself while volunteering and all they had for the people helping was donuts in the morning (I was able to say no to that) and pizza for lunch (I cracked, I was starving!). I had two slices of cheese pizza, devoured every bite, even the crust which I have never been a fan of. I must have looked like a vampire finally getting the taste blood (sorry for the analogy, I'm watching Vampire Diaries all over again). I was worried about what the grease would do to me considering I've been eating clean for two weeks now. The result of that indiscretion reared its ugly head when I work up this morning needing to visit the porcelain thrown with more urgency than I care to admit. I'm sure the bathroom visit helped me with my number on the scale so I can't complain too much 😂.

Something that has stayed with me this entire 14 day period is lemon water. I drink waaayyyyy more water now than ever before because I've made it a habit to use real lemon juice to flavor it. I actually crave it now. I mentioned not seeing the results yet of the weight loss but I should also mention my energy level; it's much better. I am not nearly as tired in the evenings as I used to be. I was blaming it on the weather or the time of year because, before the hour change, it was dark so soon. In all honesty though, those were excuses because I was feeling drained even when the sun was out. Luckily for my husband, this new fuel in my tank has translated to more fun at bedtime 😏. I just need to find the confidence in my body to match my liveliness 😅. I'm working on it, one day at a time, one food choice at a time.
